Metabolomics Australia:

A Commonwealth Government Initiative Available to All Life Science Researchers

Metabolomics Australia was established in 2007 as part of the Commonwealth government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). This strategy aims to boost biomolecular research in Australia with a more strategic approach to infrastructure investment.

Together with Proteomics, Genomics and Bioinformatics capabilities, we form Bioplatforms Australia and were established to develop high level expertise in ‘omics and informatics’ technologies. Each platform receives government funding and co-investment from their partners to acquire critical, high cost research infrastructure (intellectual and physical).

Metabolomics Australia specifically offers high through put metabolomics services to all life science researchers. Our services are jointly offered through a consortium of Australian universities and research institutes, each featuring world-class facilities and expertise in small molecule analysis.

Victoria

The hub of Metabolomics Australia is embedded in the heart of Melbourne University’s world-famous academic and biomedical research precinct, at the The University of Melbourne Bio21 Institute for Molecular Science and Biotechnology . Our Organisation Objectives Are To:

1. Establish and maintain a sustainable state-of-the-art metabolomics service with a supporting computational data storage and analysis capacity;
2. Work with the genomics, proteomics and informatics NCRIS platforms and other groups to develop an integrated approach to defining the molecular profile of living systems;
3. Provide open access for academia and industry;
4. Provide training in advanced metabolomics technologies;
5. Promote the dissemination and uptake of the technology through workshops and conferences;
6. Leverage other relevant science, technology and innovation infrastructure to achieve strong socio/economic benefits relevant to national research priorities;
